It's still soft and shiny, though, because it was never processed with the Color Magic changer. And it has the original factory cellophane and bow in it, with absolutely no fraying on the ends of the bow... Or Barbie's hair, for that matter. See the close up photo. I've had this beauty for about 25 years.
She's never seen the light of day, during the whole time. Finding things like this was really difficult. They acquired it from a Japanese shop owner who had it stored too. Over half a century of storage has kept the red box un-faded and bright. Likewise for the doll and clothing. And there are no odors or mildew issues. The white gloves and genuine fur stole are pristine white notice how clean and white the box liner is too! Not a snag or loose stitch in the very delicate fabric. The satin trim is perfect and has that new satin sheen to it. The only issue i can find is a small organic-type of mark or stain on the bottom left side of the skirt (right side in the photo). You can only see it when the doll is removed from the box. I'm not an authority on cleaning and restoration, but I was told that something like one of the modern oxygen cleaners would fix this in a snap. Not sure how it happened, but I suspect it may have been a piece of loose cardboard from the flaps that held the doll in place. One of them is missing. The piece is not in the box anymore, so no worries. And there haven't been any changes to this little mark or the rest of the dress, in a quarter of a century, since I bought it. In fact, everything is exactly the same as it was in the'90s! This dressed boxed doll was lovingly stored in a plastic air-tight, light-free box, in a climate controlled environment.
Additionally, it was in a pet and smoke-free environment. All the original accessories that were included with the ensemble are in their original cellphone bag, still securely taped shut with the original Mattel tape. If you look closely, you can see that the clasp on the "pearl" choker is shiny and untarnished. The romantic and beautiful "crystal" evening pumps are still sparkly with their original silver glitter.
Oh what a night Barbie would have had! And her original eyelash brush is in it's unopened mini cello bag too.
The original Japanese fashion booklet is also still sealed inside. There's a separate post card behind it, printed in Japanese as well. It might have been meant for joining a Mattel Japanese Barbie fan club... Just like American kids did in the US.
The original acrylic posing stand has never been removed either. Truly all a remarkable piece of history and nostalgia... And of course, a thing of beauty. Please note, that although the box has been carefully stored and protected from light and the elements, it has some obvious shelf wear and creasing, most on the bottom right corner and some on the sides, but it displays very nicely, nonetheless. Notice the main photo especially.
The clear plastic window is in fantastic condition, actually. No holes, cloudiness, or scuffs and scratches. Aside from the box, the only other things needing mentioning are that the doll does not have toe-nail polish. Her toes are perfect, in fact, and it looks like the nails were never painted. I've seen this numerous times before.
On mint, loose dolls and NRFB dolls. When I examined her body (without removing her dress), the vinyl is absolutely flawless.
The joints and head are tight. There is some common color change and variation between the head and torso. Her facial paint is bright and new.The blush matches her lips perfectly. The beautiful shade of rich pink, compliments the dress wonderfully. I personally don't mind the vinyl variation. It's so common on this type of mod-era vinyl, and this is such an incredibly gorgeous hair color. And those long bangs and lashes!!
Still can't get over them. I imagine they'd cover most of her eyes, if you removed the cello. Hopefully this treasure will find it's way into a true vintage lover and preservationist's heart and home. ##128578; Thank you for viewing this listing!
