This stunning 1960 #4 Blonde Barbie Ponytail is like a shot of sunshine! She is complete with all of her original accessories, like black/white swimsuit, black open toe mules, black enamel wire stand, pink Barbie and Ken fashion booklet , and of course white cats eye sunglasses. Everything shown here is original vintage Mattel except for the 35th Anniversary Repro Box, which is a great way to display or store Barbie until she decides which outfit to wear.
This Barbie's glossy blonde hair has been retied into the original set, with a hard curl at the ponytail bottom. Her tomato red lips had some rubbing and her eyebrows had faded, so she has been retouched with water based acrylic paint. She also got a little acrylic color wash for blush. All of the restoration work is removable with soap and water if you don't like it. She looks as vibrant and fresh as she did 60 years ago!
Please note that the white Kaiser doll stand is not included in this sale. If you have a question that I haven't answered in my description, please ask me. Barbie has shiny light blonde hair, with lots of soft mohair poodle bangs. Her hair has stayed light in color, it hasn't darkened from soil or oil.
She has a few stray hairs, but no missing hair plugs. Her face's skin tone has remained light, and has not darkened from smoke or molds. She doesn't have any neck tears or nose nips. She has a speck of green inside her left earring hole, but it has not spread outside of the earring hole. She is wearing pearl on filament earrings, and they will never cause any staining of her head.
As I mentioned above, her brows were color washed as they had faded. Her lips had rubs, so they also were retouched, and she was given a little blush. She has some original grey smokey eyeshadow, which looks great on her. I love how her make-up is 50's high glamour with black eyeliner. She looks quite vivacious now with her freshened make-up. Barbie's solid vinyl body is in Excellent shape. Her right butt cheek is marked Barbie R, Pats Pend, cMCMLVIII, by Mattel, Inc. Her left cheek is marked B108. I love the heavier, rubbery feel of the solid vinyl bodies.
Her body has all of it's nail polish, and her limbs are nice and tight, not swingy. Her legs are more tan in color than her torso or arms (see pics #11 & 12), probably from being held at her legs over the years. No poke marks or chewed fingers. Barbie does have a dark speck on her neck (on left in pics #4-#6) smaller than a pinhead.
She also has a faded dark speck (1/8) on her back, under her left shoulder blade. Both of these marks are shadowy freckles; they're not terribly noticeable. Barbie's black and white swimsuit is in Excellent condition, it is slightly aged looking at the top, and the top's elastic is a little stretched out. Her top will stay up for modesty, but I don't think Barbie should dive into the pool! Barbie's cat eye sunglasses have some gold glitter on them, as they are the glasses from the Pak Accessories.
The glitter is somewhat worn. The lenses and arms are in great shape. Barbie's black open toe mules are marked Japan on the bottom of the right shoe; the left shoe is marked Korea on the bottom. Both shoes look like a matched pair, and both shoes have splits. The black enamel wire stand is in Excellent shape; it is intact and straight, and the enamel has little wear. There are a few spots where the enamel is not shiny, but it is black and not corroded. The Barbie and Ken pink fashion booklet is entirely intact with no marks on it, but the outer cover has come loose from the staples.
The 35th anniversary repro box is clean and bright; it's marked Blonde on the bottom end of the lid. The box will still display Barbie nicely until she decides to change her outfit: There is some light creasing along both long edges of the lid front; it's not terribly noticeable, but it is there. You can see a little of the creasing in pic #2; at the top left of the lid you can see a faint line running through the skirt of the Suburban Shopper figure. There is also light reflection along the side of the top right figure wearing the orange shift; the reflection follows the slight crease down the right side of the lid. This gorgeous Barbie will light up your vintage doll display!
