VINTAGE BUBBLECUT BARBIE (#850) 1962 AND MIDGE (#860) 1963 "STRAIGHT LEG". Barbie's new look in 1961, said to be influenced by the 1st lady Jackie Kennedy, the fashion icon of the time, was a short style called a Bubblecut. Although collectors do not often distinguish the different faces like they do with the ponytail, the Bubblecut's face underwent the same transformation as the ponytail. The first Bubblecut had a small tight hairstyle. As the years progressed her hair got fuller and fuller.
Vintage Midge Dolls were introduced in 1962 as Barbie's best friend. Midge was created to counteract the criticism that Barbie was too mature-looking for kids. She has the same body as Barbie, with identical markings and went through the same transformations. I HAVE HAD THESE TWO DOLLS FOR 58 YEARS!!
