This is the original iconic number one Barbie from 1959. This girl is absolutely stunning.

She comes with silver -looking earrings; I believe them to be original. Conversely, her ears are green-free. Aren't we all lucky to be able to gaze upon this ultra-rare face! Her lip colour looks just as fresh as the first day she was hand painted. You can clearly see the paint strokes in the irises of both of her eyes.

This face is hand painted, not stenciled so it is ultra ultra rare. I did some extended research after I noticed her eyes looked decidedly exotic. I invite you to do your own fact-finding investigation and you will see how very rare this notorious'variation' actually is. Observe the borders of her irises; they look like a developed tornado in the distance. Think The Wizard of Oz.

I have yet to see such a thick, curvy paint stroke in the border of the hand-painted irises of a number one Barbie face! Then, the inner strokes: so very bold for the Mattel artist to insert thick, dark black paint strokes where the doll's pupil should be. Again, I have not seen it done quite so heavy-handed and with such marked confidence as this artist did it.

Please contact me with your own findings! The two red nose dots look bright and fresh. Obviously, a steady-handed youngster extended the cat -eye makeup and added some eyeshadow to her eyes. Her brunette hair is still soft and observe the curly bangs too!

No cuts or trims to this mane! Both of the metal tubes are visible from the holes in the soles of her feet. Four fingers are chopped off half way. This is the rare brunette or dark -haired number one Barbie which, I believe, was only produced half as much as the blonde one.

Also, check the picture for the butt markings. Please carefully study the pictures diligently. I cannot give this doll away for six grand because of the following facts. ADDITIONALLY, I DID DO AN ALCOHOL TEST ON HER FACE AND HER EYES AND IT DID NOT RUB OFF.

Please ask for more pictures if you need them. Thank you so much for your question. Honestly, I really should have clarified this in my description. Here is why this doll is called "hand-painted": When the number one Barbie was first produced way back in 1959, each artist who worked on her make-up had to create her eyes with only a paintbrush, paint and the artist's own skill at creating eyes. These dolls are called "hand-painted". Consequently, every hand-painted number one Barbie's eyes are one of a kind: if you look at the pictures of the eyes of this doll (above this description) you will see that her irises are very unique. I don't think you will find another number one Barbie who has eyes exactly like these because these eyes were "hand-painted". Shortly thereafter, someone at Mattel decided that a stencil would be used to create the eyes of the number one Barbie. The stencil made the eyes of all of the number one Barbies look the same.

And keep in mind that Mattel supposedly produced half as many dark-haired number one Barbies as Blonde number one Barbies. If you do the math, that would mean that there are only three to four of the dark-haired, hand-painted number one Barbies left. That's how rare my doll is. This doll came to me in a pink silhouette Barbie box wearing the Roman Holiday dress.

The pink silhouette box's lid was not labeled as the label was removed from the box. I believe this doll to be a sample doll for the Roman Holiday outfit. The item "#1 barbie 1959 HAND-PAINTED NON-STENCILED IRISES!
