The boys are mimicked after the Norman Rockwell cover of five choir boys with the three rowdy boys featured in front. It first appeared on the Saturday Evening Post cover Dec. Over the years, Rockwell revised the picture at least three times for the magazine. It is one of Rockwell's most famous prints.

These dolls each have calico print underwear and corduroy skirts with white islet cotton tops mimicking the Rockwell print. I would date the cloth used between the 1930's and 1940's. The embroidered facial detail is amazing and must have taken hours to construct. Note the black eye in particular on the blonde boy and the disheveled clothing on all three. They must have had quite a time when the choir master was out of the room.
